As population growth intensifies the tension between mankind and nature, Zhang's design offers a solution to the increasing deforestation for the production of wooden furniture. The chair's flat packaging reduces resource waste, embodying Zhang's commitment to environmental protection. The design's unique properties lie in its adaptability. The chair can be adjusted to suit different stages of life, reducing wood loss and promoting sustainability.
The chair's construction is a marvel of modern design. Made from beech and combined with a cotton linen cushion, the chair features a removable structure. The back of the chair is formed by heat bending using a mold, while the legs are shaped using a CNC milling machine. The legs' disassembly structure includes an embedded nut, drilled into a sink hole, allowing for easy assembly and disassembly. The surface can be treated with wood wax oil or open paint, maintaining the wood's texture.
The chair's dimensions are H: 750mm W:540mm D:480mm with a seat height of 445 mm. The design's flat disassembly and mortise and tenon structure make it easy to transport and assemble. The chair's legs have embedded nuts at both ends, fastened in the middle by a screw, and tightened on both sides. This design promotes not only parent-child interaction but also fosters children's intelligence and environmental awareness.
Created in Shanghai in 2017, the chair was displayed in the China Wood Furniture Yearbook in December 2017. The design is the result of meticulous research and experimentation, focusing on how to create a chair that not only saves business costs but also satisfies consumers, while conserving resources and protecting the environment. The challenge was to create a disassemblable chair with a mortise and tenon structure that would be solid and durable. The leg disassembly structure required careful scrutiny and repeated experimentation.
The chair's design is a reflection of Zhang's commitment to sustainable design and innovation. The design's purpose is to meet people's needs at different stages of life, reduce wood loss, and promote environmental awareness. This design is a testament to Zhang's innovative thinking and commitment to sustainable design. The chair's design has been recognized with the Silver A' Furniture Design Award, a testament to Zhang's outstanding expertise and innovation.
